As you may know, the Mayor has proclaimed May 3 – 8 as Occupational Health and Safety Week in Toronto. This is part of a North American-wide initiative whose goal is the prevention of injury and illness in the workplace, at home and in the community.

In keeping with this week’s theme, I am pleased to let you know about a video that our own team has produced through the joint efforts of Toronto Paramedic Services’ Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) Committee and staff from across the Division. The video, titled “Thinkin’ ’bout me”, is a unique and fun way of conveying the importance of looking out for your personal health and safety, using best practices and techniques.

I encourage everyone to share this video through out youtube channel. I think you’ll agree that while the video is about a serious topic that affects us all, it conveys the message effectively with humour. It was debuted at the 16th Annual Health and Safety Committee Recognition Event where it received overwhelming applause. Other City Divisions have already requested to show it to their own staff.

Of course, the video would not have been possible without the enthusiasm of everyone who participated along the way. I would particularly like to thank Paramedic Ammad Rahim, Joey Simoes of our Multimedia Team and Operations Superintendent Lisa Livingston for leading this project. I am also very grateful to the many areas of the Division whose staff assisted with and participated in the video — these include Community Paramedicine, Education and Development, the Communications Centre, Operations, Fleet Services, Equipment Services, PSU, Administrative Services and Scheduling.

This video demonstrates the continued dedication of our staff to caring for ourselves and each other while providing excellent care to the community.

Thank you and stay safe!
