Our Toronto Paramedic Services Team has won first place in the patient care competition at the 2017 ITLS International Trauma Conference, which took place this past weekend in Quebec City, PQ.

The Toronto Team – ACPs Jason Benaim, Rachel Janer, Christopher Rotolo and Martin Johnston (Team Coach) – was one of seven teams from around the world to compete in this event. Each team had to complete three challenging scenarios using the ITLS assessment to triage and treat trauma patients.

The commitment to clinical excellence demonstrated by our paramedics in their preparation for and performance in this competition contributes to Toronto Paramedic Services’ international reputation and influence. Our team’s ITLS result this year is a direct reflection of the world class emergency care the citizens of Toronto receive from our staff every day.

The competition also included the inaugural presentation of the George Eliadis Memorial Award. George was the ITLS Ontario Chapter Coordinator for several years and was on the winning competition team at the 2006 ITLS Conference. This “Judges’ Choice” award goes to the Patient Care Competition participant who, during the competition demonstrated the highest level of professionalism, leadership and trauma care. George’s brother, Mike, and son, Robbie, were in Quebec City to present the award to this year’s recipient – Connor McCulloch, ACP, from Niagara EMS.

The performance of our team in the ITLS Patient Care Competition is a great achievement at Toronto Paramedic Services – please join me in congratulating our team members on their success.
