2021 International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) EMD Recertification

Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certifications with the IAED are valid for two years. For renewal, the IAED requires EMDs to write a recertification exam as well as complete 24 Continuing Dispatch Education (CDE) credit hours. For those expiring this year, exams must be completed by November 18, 2021.

EDQI will contact via e-mail those EMDs whose certification is expiring this year, and will provide a copy of current CDE credit hours (see example of new certification period summary report) and, if the EMD has not accumulated the required amount, guidance in obtaining them.

Required CDE hours per discipline:

Discipline

CDE hours required

EMD 24
EMD + ED-Q 30
EMD + EMD-Mentor 24 (6 must be Mentor-specific hours)
EMD + ED-Q + EMD Mentor 30 (6 must be Mentor-specific hours)

Recertification will take place online for both the EMD and ED-Q exams. Access to the online exams is via the EMS Education Portal (Moodle). Staff who require recertification have been enrolled in the 2021 EMD Re-certification course. Instructions on how to access the exam and report CDE credit hours are included on the portal.

The IAED’s CDE hours reporting system is now fully online. EMDs are required to self-report CDE hours accumulated through various learning opportunities (e.g., CDE, Journal quizzes, Advancement Series courses, etc.). EMDs are required to submit their completed CDE hours log to the IAED via the member portal.

EMDs who require EMD-Mentor recertification will need to complete a paper exam provided by EDQI.
