Update – Humanitarian Relief Effort for Ukraine and 2022 Holiday Drive Launch

Earlier this year, the city’s emergency services partnered to collect first aid supplies, warm clothing, baby supplies, and personal care items to aid in humanitarian relief for Ukraine. As a Division, we collected an array of items and were successful in donating a cache of first aid items, as well as two decommissioned vehicles, to those in need.

Unfortunately, despite extensive efforts and because of the significant outpouring of generosity related to the Ukrainian war, the organizations supporting this cause were unable to accept the remaining items. In recognition of the spirit of giving in which these donations were made, a decision has been made to distribute the remaining donations to those in need in our community through our upcoming holiday donation drive.

On November 1, 2022, Toronto Paramedic Services will launch the 2022 Holiday Drive, in partnership with City Divisions including Transportation Services, Fleet Services and Shelter, Support & Housing Administration. Donations will benefit charitable agencies including the Daily Bread Food Bank, Covenant House, Toy Mountain, and Shelter, Support & Housing Administration clients in need of winter clothing and food.

The following items for the 2022 Holiday Drive may be placed in donation boxes that will be placed at our Service District Hubs, as well as Emergency Services Headquarters:

  • Winter outerwear for children and adults (coats, snowsuits),
  • Winter accessories including hats, gloves, scarves and warm socks,
  • New toys,
  • Personal health products including soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, diapers and baby wipes, powdered laundry soap, and feminine hygiene products, and
  • Non-perishable food items.

More information will be available on the Staff Blog in the coming days. If you have any questions about the 2022 Holiday Drive, please contact Superintendent Sheryl Jackson via phone (416-392-0940) or email (Sheryl.Jackson@toronto.ca).

I am so very proud of your continued support of our community, and the outstanding generosity that is reflected in the donations you have provided for those in need.

Sincerely,
