Part-Time (PT) Call Takers entitled to vacation will participate in the annual vacation booking process. Vacation time will be scheduled in accordance with the Local 79 PT B Collective Agreement and operational requirements. The 2024 annual vacation booking process is now scheduled to occur December 11-13, 2023.

Vacation Allotment

Vacation allotments for PT Call Takers are as follows:

  • PT Call Takers who have completed 12 calendar months of employment are entitled to two (2) weeks of vacation time per year.
  • PT Call Takers who have completed 2,080 paid hours are entitled to three (3) weeks of vacation time per year.
  • PT Call Takers who have selected Vacation Savings Pay (VSP) will not be compensated for their vacation. Unpaid PT vacation weeks are not eligible for carryover.
  • PT Call Takers who have selected to bank vacation time will have the time deducted from their banks and will be paid for their vacation. These banked days are eligible for carryover; however, the annual PT vacation week entitlement does not change (i.e., maximum of two weeks).

Vacation Booking Process

Vacation Booking Process

Vacation must be requested in one-week blocks, by calendar week (a calendar week is defined as seven (7) days from Monday to Sunday). Vacation requests will be scheduled as follows:

  • Non-prime time for 2024 is defined as January 8 to May 12, 2024, and September 9 to December 15, 2024. Up to two (2) consecutive weeks will be allowed in non-prime time.
  • Prime time for 2024 vacation is defined as January 1 to January 7, 2024, and May 13 to September 8, 2024, and December 16, 2024, to January 5, 2025. Consecutive weeks are not permitted in prime time.
  • A maximum of one (1) PT Call Taker can be off on the same vacation week during prime time. A maximum of two (2) PT Call Takers can be off on the same vacation week during non-prime time.

Submitting Cycle Availability

When submitting availability for a six (6) week cycle that contains approved vacation week(s), submit availability as per the established process. Scheduling Management will then isolate the

approved vacation week and remove up to three (3) shifts of availability. Once this availability is removed, the cycle will be plotted with whatever availability remains.

Note: PT Call Takers are permitted to pick up additional shifts during their pre-booked vacation week; however, this does not cancel the vacation week.

Ad Hoc Vacation Requests Made After the Booking Process

Any request for PT Call Taker vacation outside of the annual vacation booking process must be submitted in writing for approval. Requests for time off prior to the cycle must be submitted to the Administrative Superintendent and copied to the PT Superintendent. Requests for time off during the cycle must be submitted through the PT Superintendent. Approval of these dates will be dependent on availability and operational requirements.

Note: Any PT Call Takers requesting vacation during the remainder of 2023 must follow the ad hoc process outlined above.

TeleStaff

If your request is approved, your calendar in TeleStaff will be updated to show a “PT VAC Week” bar across the entire week, as shown below:
